The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is an international financial institution and a specialized United Nations agency dedicated to eradicating rural poverty and hunger. It does so by investing in rural people. IFAD finances programmes and projects that increase agricultural productivity and raise rural incomes, and advocates at the local, national and international level for policies that contribute to rural transformation.
Post’s organizational accountability
The Communications Division (COM) leads implementation of IFAD’s Communication Strategy and acts variously as facilitator, partner and leader with regards to delivery of IFAD’s internal and external communication work. COM has a team of expert staff in media relations, video production, writing, publishing, web and other digital media, graphic design, visual identity, photography, brand management, internal communication and events management to meet IFAD’s communication priorities.
The Communication Officer, Web Management and Social Media, is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of IFAD’s corporate web presence in all official languages and has oversight of the organization’s social media activities.
Key results expected / Major functional activities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Strategic Communication, and in line with IFAD’s communication strategy, the incumbent performs the following duties:
Web management
- Coordinates ongoing development and maintenance of IFAD’s corporate website, ensuring content is up-to-date and the site structure and functionality is in-line with business needs.
- Tracks and analyses site usage statistics, makes recommendations and actively implements ongoing improvements, particularly as it concerns SEO. Contributes to corporate processes by reporting on key performance indicators.
- Troubleshoots website operations, identifies problems and works as necessary with COM partners such as the Information Communication Technology (ICT) division to debug website issues.
- In consultation with ICT and others across IFAD, oversees the creation of new sections on the website, as well as the development of related microsites and other digital platforms in line with IFAD’s Communications Strategy and defined business needs.
- Ensures a consistent look and feel across the website by promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images and layout while adhering to digital brand guidelines as well as overseeing the creation of appropriate templates to assist content authors.
- Champions best web practice, providing an authoritative voice and guidance in meetings and through presentations across IFAD. Takes responsibility for proposing, updating and maintaining corporate digital guidelines for web and social media.
- Provides guidance and supervisory oversight for the web and social media team, including organizing and following up on regular planning meetings.
- Meets regularly with the Chief, Strategic Communications, to review and report on web and social media objectives, priorities, progress and delivery.
Social Media
- Recommends strategic approaches to IFAD’s social media engagement, while overseeing IFAD’s corporate social media channels, including day-to-day posting, content planning, creation and curation across the organization.
- Leads on the development and implementation of a robust social media programme for staff including training and capacity building, helping to further IFAD’s broader visibility goals.
- Monitors and reports issues related to reputational risk and proposes follow up actions.
- Provides regular analysis of social media analytics and recommends strategies to help IFAD meet its visibility goals.
